Emotion

These commercials take advantage of any nostalgia, charm, or sentimentality to convince you to buy a product can be hard to forget as well as hard to resist. However, they have similar weaknesses to humor-based commercials. Be careful.

Reason-Why Copy

This simply lists the reasons why people should buy the product. It can be very effective. Unfortunately, it seems to work better in print.

Continuing Characters

Humor

Very useful in helping people recognize your brand. If you create a character that people like, use them as much as possible until your customers get bored of them.

While people like funny commercials, said commercials' effectiveness at selling products is a different subject entirely. Furthermore, humor-based commercials that fail at being funny tend to ruin sales. Avoid these unless you're certain that it will be funny to viewers.

Visual As Hero

Jingles

Sometimes, advertisers seem to forget that they're making a commercial to sell something, not a movie to entertain. These commercials are the result: a miniature film with colors and visuals surpassing most TV shows and motion pictures. While effective at grabbing a viewer's attention, nothing has yet shown that they have any impact on sales.

These are catchy little phrases that go well with music.

Animation

This is effective with children. However, it usually is useless against adults.

Life-Style Advertising

This type of commercial pays more attention to the user and how the product fits into his kind of life, hence the name. It often doesn't touch on things like price.

Stand-Up Presenter

Slice-Of-Life

This is a short play involving two people (or more) and a story about the product. A bit of a cliche in modern times, but effective nonetheless.

These are sometimes called a "talking head" or "pitchman". To put it simply, this type involves an actor in front of the camera delivering a direct sales pitch on the product.

Testimonials

Testimonials are praise from a customer or third party, which is useful for helping potential customers believe a claim about the product. The most effective ones are those that use actual users of the product, rather than actors.

Demonstrations

Demonstrations show you how a product works. This makes them great for comparing two products. They also happen to be exceptionally effective.
