Fluids and Pressure
- Pressure on a fluid causes movement
- Pressure exerted anywhere on a confined fluid is transferred equally in all directions
- Hydraulic systems use liquids to transfer a force between pistons
Fluids and Viscosity
Buoyancy
- Viscosity is the thickness of a fluid
- high viscosity equals thick which has more friction
- Low viscosity equals thin which has less friction
- When the temperature rises the particles spread out which equals less friction and lower viscosity
Fluids and Density
Compressible fluids
- Buoyancy is a property of fluids that cause objects to flow in liquids or gases
- Buoyancy is a force of fluids that opposes to gravity
- High force of gravity + low force of buoyancy = object sinks
- low force of gravity+high force of buoyancy = object that floats
- Density is the mass per unit volume,D=M/V
- Denser substance has more particles and less space between them
- Less dense objects have less particles and more space in between them
- Density of object does not change
- The compressibility of fluids can make life easier for humans
- hydraulic systems makes use of the pressure of a liquids
- Pneumatic systems make use of the pressure of a gas
- The compressed liquid particles have small change in volume
