virus

The virus is a genetic agent having a central region of nucleic acid, DNA or RNA (genome) and which is surrounded by a protein coat or capsid, and in some cases by a lipoprotein envelope.

CHARACTERISTICS

What are viruses?

what are viruses?

Viruses contain all the information necessary for its reproductive cycle; that can only occur in living cells.

We can distinguish a virus from others by the size shape and composition of its genome.

Other characteristics...

- They haven't got organelles.

- They haven't got metabolic autonomy, so they are not considered cells.

- Their biological cycle has two parts:

1: Extracellular

2: Intercellular

By themselves they are not able to do it because they lack the necessary molecular machinery.

There are a lot of types of viruses...

Viruses have evolved to replicate within the cell they infect.
