Are Alexander and Genghis more similar or different?
Alexander the Great
From the evidence that I have collected, there are more differences than similarities between the two rulers. They both became rulers by different circumstances, they have different positions in which they rule, they had different size armies and died leaving their armies in different circumstances. However, they were both substantial leaders in their time and introduced new culture that we still use today.
Differences
- Born on July 20/21 356-June 10/11 323
- The empire was located in ancient greek of Macedonia, Asia and NE. Africa
- Inherited his fathers strong and experienced army
- Empire was a monarchy
- Started an extension of trade routes
- Spread Greek culture including: laws, government, language and religion throughout the middle east
- Incorporated the the Persian empire into his own, killing two of his closest friends
Alexander the Great
Genghis Khan
- King of Macedonia through (336-323 BC)
- Inherited his fathers army
- Responsible for the spread of Greek civilization in the Mediterranean & W. Asia
- Was considered the greatest conqueror of classical times
- Died at 32 with no heirs
- Emperor between (1206-1227)
- Rose up from obscurity
- Single handed launched a Mongol empire
- Was known for his brutality and wrath
- Died at 65 with successors to level out the empire (kill off)
Similarities
They both:
- Began and lead expansive empires
- Conquered land
- Often won in battle
- United people overseas
- Made many advancements in history
- Were well known leaders
Genghis Khan
- Born in (1162-August 18, 1227)
- The land of the empire contained Nomadic tribes
- The government was a meritocracy and ran by civilian and military code
- There was tax exemptions for religious figures
- He Introduced a writing system,
- Achieved tribal unity among the Mongols, and
- Conquered more territory than any other conqueror
