RIBA II:
CARE GIVING ROBOT
WHAT TASK DOES RIBA II PERFORM? WHAT HUMAN FUNCTION DOES RIBA PERFORM?
RIBA's job is to lift people when asked nicely. Seems useless, yes, but if you don't have a robot bear around to help you out, you either need to use an awkward and uncomfortable piece of machinery or have a person do it, and if you haven't noticed, we humans are heavy and getting heavier.
By Shunterio D. and Ashlyn M.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT GIVING UP CONTROL TO A MACHINE?
WHERE IS RIBA USED? WHAT IS RIBA'S WORK ENVELOPE?
It could be good because unlike robots, humans need breaks, food, and have limitations. Robots could be used to make things much faster but the robots could break and most parts used for these robots can be quite expensive and/or hard to find. Giving up control to these machines would be good in ideas too but if robots were used for everything to make processes faster then how many jobs would be left open for humans?
RIBA is currently being used in hospitals and nursing homes.
RIBA's work envelope is:
7 feet for each arm
3 feet for head
2 feet for waist
3 feet for the cart (four motored wheels)
Height is 140 centimeters
IS THE ROBOTIC END EFFECTOR MULTI-FUNCTIONAL? IF SO WHAT OTHER TASKS CAN IT PERFORM?
It is not multi-functional, RIBA's sole purpose is to only carry people from place to place.
WHAT CONCERNS DO YOU HAVE ABOUT FUTURE ROBOTS IN OUR SOCIETY?
Shunterio thinks they might take over the world but they likely might not in this era. Robots as they advance could consume more energy and as we humans keep using up the unnatural resources we have we may not have enough energy sources available if so many robots have the same energy sources.

HOW IS THE ROBOT TAUGHT TO PERFORM IT'S TASK?
RIBA is programmed to respond to commands that tells it to pick humans up carefully and take them from one place to another.
PREDICT AND EXPLAIN HOW THIS ROBOT MAY BE ALTERED TO PERFORM MORE OR DIFFERENT TASKS IN THE FUTURE.
WHAT SENSORS DOES THE ROBOT HAVE AND HOW DOES THE ROBOT USE THESE SENSORS?
In the future it can be modified to carry more weight and perform more functions without human interference and assistance to patients.
RIBA can respond to certain commands and pick you up. RIBA uses this to carry people from the starting area to the designated area.
NAME SOME AND DISADVANTAGES OF USING A ROBOT TO COMPLETE THIS TASK.

WHAT TYPES OF CAREERS CAN RIBA CREATE TO PROVIDE EMPLOYMENT FOR PEOPLE?
Can't climb stairs
Humans could get more lazy than they are now.
Easier and safer for both the patient and the nurse.
Faster to get places.
RIBA can open up positions for the people making RIBA and the humans still need some assistance for the robot to pick them up so it could make more nurses positions available.
DESCRIBE THE IMPACT THAT THIS ROBOT HAS HAD ON INTENDED AUDIENCES.
It is preventing physical harm from happening to patients from struggling to get from one place to another.
