Members of the council should be trained and experienced. They must appraise programs and activities of the Government and help national economic policy to promote employment, production, and purchasing power under free competitive enterprise.
This department was established by Congress in the Employment Act of 1946. Their most important job is to help the president write the Economic Report. However, they also give economic advice on the formulation of both domestic and international economic policy.
