The method of Petrarchan sonnets was developed through different Renaissance poets, including Wyatt. The typical rhyme scheme for these sonnets are in "a b b a a b b a" form, which is the way most of Wyatt's poetry was written.

Thomas Wyatt and Anne Boleyn

Anne Boleyn was the second wife of Henry VIII who Wyatt worked for. Wyatt became in love with her as soon as he saw her, and many of his poems address that idea. An example, in his riddle poem “What wourde is that that chaungeth not” his answer was "Anne"

Sir Thomas Wyatt was born in 1503 at Allington Castle in Kent, England. Like his father, Wyatt worked in the court of Henry VIII as a wealthy privy councilor. He soon became popular to the court, and carried out several foreign missions for King Henry VIII. Although the court favored his poems, none of his poems were published until after his death in 1542

Thomas Wyatt and Terza rima

Terza rima is a rhyming stanza that interlocks three-lines in a rhyme scheme

Example of Wyatts work in terza rima:

My mother’s maids, when they did sew and spin,

They sang sometimes a song of the field mouse,

That for because their livelihood was but so thin

Would needs go seek her townish sister’s house.

She thought herself endured to much pain:

The stormy blasts her cave so sore did souse...
