4. Data Gathering Procedure
The researchers asked permission from the office of the Principal of Senior High School Department, Teodoro M. Luansing College of Rosario to allow them to administer the questionnaire to the 30, 20, 25 and 25 students with the course preferences as ABM, GAS, STEM and HUMSS, respectively.
With the approved permit from the Principal’s office, the researchers requested the teachers of Senior High School Department for the distribution of the questionnaires to selected students as respondents. After a week, the researchers retrieved the bunch of questionnaires from each course strands. One hundred percent of the questionnaires were retrieved.
The scoring used in measuring the responses from the final instrument are interpreted using the following quantification based on weighted mean.

The present study is highly relevant to the one conducted by Garcez since both studies concentrate on the students’ desire to succeed in the field of education to be able to pursue their goals in the near future. These studies also give emphasis on the career development that learners need to attain through self-esteem which is part of the Senior High school Education Program. The difference lies on the broadness of the topic. His study is more focused on setting career goals through education while the present study stresses the course preferences in Senior High School.
This study aims to determine the factors affecting the course preferences of senior high school students in Teodoro M. Luansing College of Rosario in terms of personal, school, home and economic factor.
Students’ career success can be best attained if the right course suited to their personality, ability and intellect serves as their guide in the course they are to take in senior high school. Experiencing the career suited to students by integrating career plan with the curriculum help students make good decisions in what course to take in senior high school.
Objectives
The researchers made use of questionnaire in the attempt to find answers to the problems posited.
To prepare the questionnaire, the researcher read a lot of materials like books, journals and unpublished researches related to the present study.
The questionnaire is composed of two parts. Part I is about the profile of the respondents in term of gender and course preferences and Part II is about the factors that affect the respondent’s course preference in terms of personal, Family, school and economic status. Part II was given five situations in determining the real sentiments of respondents based from the different indicators considered.
After constructing the instrument, it was shown to the adviser for some suggestions. Then after some revisions it was submitted to the thesis committee in the proposal defense.
Moreover, a dry – run was conducted in two schools which were not included in the study. This is to check the content and clarity of the questionnaire. After the validation, the researcher revised the questionnaire and the final copy was prepared.

It is also noted that there are similarities between the present study and the one conducted by Siguan Jr.,Almerino and Pabiton are highly related to the present study because these are all centered on developing course preferences for better occupation. The factors that may also influence their chosen specialization are also discussed in these studies. However, the difference lies on some factors since one of these studies is focused more on personal interests, abilities, skills and values. The present study concentrates on the personal, school and economic factors.
Generally, the studies conducted by both foreign and local researchers are related to the present study.
Moreover, the study conducted by Lethbridge has high relevance to the present study since it also concentrates on assessing the career needs of senior high school students. The present study also aims to evaluate these career needs of Senior HS students through identifying their desired tracks according to their perceptions. Factors such as school and home are discussed on both studies. However, they differ in terms of the nature of respondents because her study includes teachers, parents, counselors and administrators.
1. Educational status is every bit essential to the progress of one country’s economy. According to Martin Luther King (1964), “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligent plus character- that is the goal of the education.” This only means that attaining knowledge is not only about how easy or how difficult the academic subjects are. It is about how they are taught. As today’s reception to the curriculum in accordance with the K-12 program implementation, many factors are affecting the senior high school student’s course preference.
2. Teodoro M. Luansing College of Rosario is one of those 2,199 private schools which launched senior high school as of June 2016. Senior high school is two years of specialized upper secondary education; students may choose a specialization based on aptitude, interests, and school capacity. The choice of career track will define the content of the subjects a student will take in Grade 11 and 12. Senior high school students fall under either core curriculum or special tracks. There are seven learning areas under the core curriculum. These are Languages, Literature, Communication, Mathematics, Philosophy, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences.
From the summarized findings, the following conclusions were drawn.
1. The senior high school students chose their strand especially based on their long term dream and some of them want to develop their skills and abilities in their chosen strand.
2. Majority of the respondents agreed that family income greatly affects their choice of strand.
3. School facilities were one of the factors which affect the choice of senior high school students in terms of their tracks. They agreed that Teodoro M. Luansing College of Rosario can provide the appropriate instructional materials suited to their specialization.
4. Most of the respondents considered their economic status in society. Their choice of strand was based on the tuition fee. They were hoping that Teodoro M. Luansing College of Rosario has affordable tuition fees but expensive ideas which can help them to have a better job in the future.
From the findings and conclusion of the study, the following recommendations are hereby presented:
1. Senior high school students must study hard to ensure high grades to be qualified for scholarship grants and other student assistance program.
2. Teodoro M. Luansing College of Rosario must increase the scholarship grants / offers to in order to help students to continue their studies.
3. Children should be properly guided, taught and assisted from their young age for them to undergo necessary preparation to pursue the most appropriate courses for them
4. Teodoro M. Luansing College of Rosario must strengthen their marketing strategies such as conducting career guidance programs among different secondary schools to enlighten students’ minds with what strand best suits their skills.
