Frederick Middleton
Sir Frederick Middleton was the commander of the North-West Rebellion. Frederick Middleton was born on November 4, 1825 in Belfast, Ireland . Middleton was educated at Royal Military Battle college.
First the Canadian Government sent in the steamboat Northcote but it got crippled by a ferry line. Even though the Metis won the first day, the large amount of Canadian Government soldiers were just too much for the small amount of Metis.
Louis Riel
Louis Riel was born on October 22, 1844. He died on November 16, 1885 age 41. He had two children, Jean Louis and Marie Angelique.
Gabriel Dumont
Gabriel was born on December 1, 1837. He died on May 19, 1906 at the age of 68. Dumont destroyed railway lines to stop enemy's movement but Riel stopped him.

Why did they fight?
After the battle three Canadian soldiers stole the bell, Marie Antoinette and brought it home to Middlebrook Ontario. Louis Riel was captured by the Canadian Government and was hanged for treason on November 16 1885 and Gabriel Dumont escaped to the United States of America.
The Metis were not happy about the area of land allowed by the Canadian Government so Louis Riel decided to take action and rebel.

The Canadian Government wanted to put a railway line through the Metis land. By doing that they would make the Metis have very small lots.
The Battle of Batoche was on May 9 to the 12 1885. The battle was started because the Metis
were losing their land so Louis Riel rebelled against the Canadian government.
