Max Blanck and Isaac Harris weren't the best people to work for.
They are know for being bad bosses and made Time's" list of the "Top Ten Worse Bosses" and got fourth place. Have you ever wondered what their lives were like before and after the fire that made them so hated?
How it Started
- Both Russian, jewish immigrants that came to the US in the 1890's.
- Both worked in the garment business.
- Met in New York, New York
- Were related by marriage which is how they were introduced.
Profit from Fire
- The Triangle fire of 1911 wasn't the factory's first fire.
- Known for creating fires before the factory would open
- Were likely doing it for the insurance money,
- Those fires and the fire both had money in common.
- Made a profit of $60,000, $400
- Spent most of it in their superstar lawyer and $25,000 on bail.
The Trial(s)

- Sued by 23 different families for 1st & 2nd degree murder.
- Had to pay $75 per victim
- Larger law suit took place in December of 1911 and was being tried for manslaughter.
- They were found innocent
- Were indicted(charged) 7 different times
Life after the Fire
- Were sued many times, once for not paying a $206 water bill.
- They finally closed the factory in 1918.
- Isaac was a tailor.
- Max owned other companies and made a good amount of money.
