100:100
50:50,100
as you see my LCM is 100 but if I had use bigger numbers it would of took longer. and sometimes if you use bigger numbers it can go on for ever until you get the LCM
Factor Tree
100 50 Base:5*5*5*5*2*2
100:5*5*5*5*2*2 /\ /\
50*50 10*5 50:5*5*2
/\ /\ /\
10*5 10*5 5*2
/\ /\
5*2 5*2 LCM=2,500
You didn't have to do the problem in a factor tree you could of done it differently like you could have list the multiple.
The least common multiple (LCM) of two numbers is the smallest number (not zero) that is a multiple of both.
example:
The multiples of 3 are: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, etc ...
The multiples of 12 are: 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, etc...
LCM=12
40 20 Base:2*2*2*5=4*10=
/\ /\ 40:2*2*2*5=2(3)*5
4* 10 2 * 10 20:2*2*5=2(2)*5
/\ /\ /\ LCM=40
2*2 5*2 5*2
You have to find the smallest number in 100 and 20 to get the LCM
