This era was filled with extravagance. Everything was big and fancy, including the clothes, the art, the dance, and especially the music. It included larger works for orchestra, chamber ensembles, choirs, etc. Musicians during this era are Bach, who was a german composer for the Lutheran church.
Often abbreviated as R&B, rhythm and blues is a genre of popular african-american music. Created by Louis Jordan, who wanted to play blues and dance, but didn’t like the other styles. So, he created the musical style called R&B.
Classical era used lighter and clearer textures for their music. It was less complex than others. Composers include Mozart, who created over 600 works before his death at age 35. His first symphony was when he was just four years old. Another composer is Haydn, known as the father of symphony.
Music from this era included strong emotion and it attempted to increase emotional expression. The music had denser, heavier musical textures. Composers in this era include Beethoven, who was one of the first romantic composers, Gioachino Rossini, who was a very popular composer and wrote 39 operas mostly about the lower. Usually his pieces of work tended to be sad.
Rock and Roll didn’t acquire the name until the 1950s. Classic Rock and Roll is usually played with one or two electric guitars, a string bass (or after the mid-1950s) an electric bass guitar, and a drum kit. Artists include Bob Dylan and The Byrds.
This era was known as the prohibition era. Music during this time was to influence dancing. Jazz ended in 1929 when the Great Depression occurred. Artists around this time were Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington.
