Introduction

Early Basketball

Basketball was first, and still is,used as a sport that you can play for many reasons. Some people simply use basketball as a fun why to get fit while others use it as a way to improve their skills. One the most obivious uses of basketball and its technology is for money or fame.

The first basketball was actually a soccer ball, but was eventuallly turned into the leather or rubber ball we have today. The first pair of basketball shoes were invented by Spalding and they were made to help you jump higher.

Changes in Basketball

Basketball has changed so much from the original game invented by James Naismith, that I can't list them all.

One of the larger changes is Womens Basketball (The WNBA). At first, women wern't allowed to play, until Senda Berenson created the first team, under Niasmith's permission.

The changes in the court made a big difference in how the players play. In 1894, the free throw line was moved from 20 feet to 15 feet by preferred demand of the players

The free throw lane also widened from six feet to 12 feet, also by preferred demand of the players

Modern Technology

The basketball technology we use today is very modified to the 21st century. For example a new type of Nike shoes, the Nike Air Max, is designed to help your feet stay cool in your shoes, while perfecting your performance. The official basketball used by the NCAA is the Wilson NCAA Solution Game Basketball which is designed to absorb perspiration and sweat, and is made of the lastest composite leather, the best basketball material.

Impact on Society

The impact basketball and its technologies has had on society is AMAZING!Think of all the new technologies that has been created just for basketball. The shoes, the ball, the court, and event the modern electric scoreboard was created for basketball. Sports bring people together, no matter what race or religon you are. One bad impact is that it provides unfortunate oppurtunitys for people to be racist, or speak out against calls/decisions.

In conclusion,basketball is a great sport that has many important technologies.

Basketball is a very well known sport that was invented by Dr. James Naismith, in December of 1981. He was trying to create a fun, simple game that was cheap to watch and play. The result of his experiments was the wonderful sport of basketball.
