The Aeneid: Book VII

In response to Aeneas's request for land, LAtinus happy grants Aeneas territory as well as offer his daughters hand in marriage

Juno, however is not pleased with this. She sends down one of her Fury's (Allecto) to spread anger between Aeneas and the Latins.

Aeneas and his men eat "pizza" on the beach, and are so hungry that they eat there giant dough crust which was acting as their table. Ascanius jokes about how the prophecy has come true and they have eaten their tables.

Allecto first infects Queen Amata against Aeneas, then invokes Turnus's anger.

This is followed by a celebration to the gods, specifically to Jupiter.

Aeneas sends out emissaries to King Latinus. He also starts the construction of a fort, and sends out hunters into the forest.

Aeneas and his entourage land in Italy at the mouth of the

Tiber river near Latium.

Meanwhile Ascanius is off hunting in the woods and wounds a stag.

The stag wanders back to its master, (Chief herdsmen of latium) and dies. The herdsman is furious and gathers a war party of shepherds.

Meanwhile in Latium, King latinus has no male heirs, but has a daughter, Lavinia. Lavinia has many man competing for her, including Turnus (leader of the Rutulians).

-King Latinus travels to a prestigious waterfall oracle. It tells her that Lavinia is going to marry a foreigner and their descendants will rule the world.

-Soon the whole area knows of the prophecy. Latinus's wife Amata is not convinced, and believes Lavinia should marry Turnus.

Although both sides eventually retreated, the Latins lost many more men.

The survivors return to King Latinus and beg him to attack Aeneas and his men.

Caieta: Aeneas's nurse, who died.

Neptune: God, sends Trojans a favorable breeze.

Latinus: King of Latium.

Lavinia: Latinus' daughter, unmarried.

Turnus: Most eligible bachelor for Lavinia.

Ascanius: Son of Aeneas. Killed Stag.

Juno: God, angry at Aeneas.

Allecto: Fury summoned by Juno to wreak havoc.

Italian Warriors: Mezentins of Tuscany, Lansus (second most handsome man), Camilla (Woman warrior, very fast).

Amata: Latinus' wife, Lavinia's mother.

Latinus does not wish to engage in battle, but all the court demands war. He ends up throwing up his hands and retreating to his chamber, feeling unable to stop what the gods have started. Turnus gathers a great army, captained by "the greatest warriors in Italy", and marches them to war with Aeneas.
