Brinkmanship

Brinkmanship is a term that came from the "Hungarian political theory of pushing the military to the brink of war in order to convince the other nation to meet your demands"

Although the event did not actually make it onto the clock, this is where it would have appeared.

"The clock has not always been set and reset as quickly as events occur; the closest nuclear war threat, the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, reached crisis, climax, and resolution before it could be set to reflect that possible doomsday."

Brinkmanship & the

Cuban Missile Crisis

The Cuban Missile Crisis; also known as the October Crisis, which occurred in 1962 during the Cold War. The high tension confrontation lasted for thirteen days. It was Cuba and the Soviet Union vs. the U.S.A. The Cuban Missile Crisis was a significant moment in the Cold War and was the closest that the Cold War came to becoming a full on Nuclear War.

The Cuban Missile Crisis was a good example of brinksmanship because it was the result of conflict and tensions held over a long period of time caused by conflicting ideologies. The Cuban Missile Crisis was the height of the conflict where neither side was going to back down and both were prepared to use their nuclear arms, threatening the safety of the whole globe.
