What are Instructional Text?

• An instructive text is a text that instructs or tells you how to do something.

The basic function of instructional texts is to explain how to perform some activities. These texts usually follow a logically ordered sequence.

Used two rhetorical functions:

a) Order

b) Suggest

The shapes of these texts are:

Non verbal instructions, instructions that combine visual and verbal elements and Verbal instructions

• In instructive texts the writer tells the reader/audience what to do. The instructive text type is based on the action-demanding sentence. Commercial and political propaganda, directions, regulations, rules etc.
