1920's The History Begins
- During the early part of the 20th century, there was no existing police force in New Jersey.
- Besides the local sheriff and his constables.
- The demand for a uniformly well-trained rural police force increased dramatically with the ever growing population and crime rate
- In the 1950's the division would make even more improvements by becoming more diversified and taking on even more responsibilities
- But unfortunately the Korean conflict was another road block in the development.
- Seeing as how it enacted the same protocol as WWII by using local and state police to serve overseas
1930's Blue and Cavalry Yellow
1950's Building a Reputation
- The decade of the 70's was an eventful year for the state police.
- For one it had its training facility in Trenton moved to Sea Girt.
- And in 1971 they marked their 5oth anniversary
- The new facility in Sea Girt was dedicated to none other than colonel. Schwarzkopf
1970's Shaping The Future
- During the 1930's the New Jersey State police had become widely respected as one of the nations best police agencies. This sudden rise in success can be directly attributed to the outstanding leadership of colonel Schwarzkopf
- The colonel and the 208 men under his command had devoted themselves to policing over 7,000 square miles
- During the later parts of the 1930's, it was not uncommon for a trooper to work 12-16 hours for 2 straight weeks
- As you could imagine this took quite the toll on what little police force Schwarzkopf had
- June 1st, 1962, the single most tragic event to date for the outfit.
- With the deaths of Milan Simcak, Joseph P. DeFrino, and Arthur J. Abagnale Jr.
- The 3 troopers were traveling on the new jersey turnpike on the passaic valley bridge when they were struck by a bus and killed instantly.
1960's Changing Times
- The outfit embarks on recruiting more female officers
- The state police metro crime task force was created to help keep the ever spiraling crime rate in check.
1980's Diversity and Expansion
The 1940's The Outfit Goes To War
- The 1940's began with that ever so dark cloud of world war 2
- The troopers obviously new that this war would in some way or the other involve there services, whether it be overseas or right here at home
- Turns out they needed them in both places.
- But mainly the troopers were used to make sure all the supplies needed for the war were kept safe and going directly to Europe
- The appointment of the 10th superintendent Colonel Justin J. Dintino
- The 90's saw an onslaught of the new and ever pressing war on drugs
- It even caused the merger of the organized crime bureau and the narcotics bureau

The History Of The New Jersey State Police
History of the badge
- The shape of the triangular badge comes from the state police motto
- Duty, Honor, and Fidelity
- Julius George Schwarzkopf
- The issuing of badge numbers actually began with the second class in the history of the academy
- Both first and second class consisted of 116 men
- All were issued a badge at the start of the academy
- By the time the academy had finished, 35 recruits had dropped out and been dismissed and their badges had been removed as well
