- Capital punishment, also referred to as the death penalty, is the execution of criminals who have committed murder. Some states also enforce capital punishment for child rapists, kidnappings, and drug trafficking.
- There are currently 32 states who have Capital Punishment laws in place.
- In 2011, the death penalty was abolished in Illinois.
