PREHISTORIC AND ANCIENT TIMES

6300 B.C. - Archaeological evidence of fine woven cloth fragments (30-38 threads per inch) were found in Turkey.

3000 B.C. - Cotton was planted in Pakistan, Western India and America.

2700 B.C. - Silk cloth was woven by Chinese through silkworm cultivation and development of special looms.

2500 B.C. - Linen woven at 540 threads per inch was seen on Egyptian mummies.

327-63 B.C.

327 B.C. - Indian printed cotton astonished Alexander the Great.

300 B.C. - Vast trade in textiles was advanced by Ancient Greeks and Romans.

768 A.D. - A silk weaving industry in France was founded and wool was imported in England by Charlemagne

1153 A.D - The first annual cloth fair happened in England.

1200 A.D - The spinning wheel became a prevalent apparatus.

1589 - A knitting machine used to produce hosiery was discovered by William Lee.

1667 - An English law mandated all people to be buried using woolen fabric.

1733 - The flying shuttle was invented by John Kay.

1738 - The roller spinning machine were discovered by Lewis Paul and John Wyatt.

1742 - Cotton mills initiated in England.

1748 - The carding machine was first designed by Lewis Paul.

1750 - Cylinder printing was discovered by Joseph Bell. Dash wheels were also developed.
