The authority of God's word in your life

Mat 7:24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

Introduction Topic

Greek: metanoia

Translation: to think differently

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men.

  • Is Jesus Christ the Lord of your life?
  • Do you understand what happened at the cross in term of your sin?

Act 8:26 Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, "Go south to the road--the desert road--that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza." 27 So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means "queen of the Ethiopians"). This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, 28 and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet. 29 The Spirit told Philip, "Go to that chariot and stay near it." 30 Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. "Do you understand what you are reading?" Philip asked. 31 "How can I," he said, "unless someone explains it to me?" So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. 32 This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading: "He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth. 33 In his humiliation he was deprived of justice. Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth." 34 The eunuch asked Philip, "Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?" 35 Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. 36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, "Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?" 38 And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. 39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.

Our Approach

Joh 13:34 "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

This is a study approach to discover more about God, Jesus and the "word" without reading pages of some-one's opinion. I hope you will allow God to speak to you through his Spirit alone. Prayerfully continue with each study to include God.

Always pray :-)

Joh_14:12 I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

This is a great opportunity for you to learn how to handle the word of God. Use your bible as much as possible to navigate to the scriptures. Try and read wider than the listed scripture to confirm the context of the passage.

Elementary

teachings

  • Do you know God?
  • Do you know what God want for you?
  • Do you know what Jesus has been doing?
  • Are you living as a disciple of Jesus Christ?
  • Do you want to know more about faith?

The study follow a logical flow based on Heb 6:1-2 and scriptures that I though may be relevant to the topic. The topics build on each other but you are free to navigate to any topics that may interest you.

The best way to study the scriptures is with some-one that can assist you with your journey. If you don't know anybody you can contact me so that I can work something out for you. There is always someone that can talk with you on Skype.

If you are a disciple you can use these studies to help some-one else.

Keys

Heb 6:1 Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, 2 instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3 And God permitting, we will do so.

How does it work?

Read the scripture in your Bible.

Be honest and truthful to yourself.

What are the elementary teachings?

1. There are many main teachings.

Memory verse

2. Teachings have many topics.

Intro Training :-)

Answer is always in the text or in yourself!

Looking at the text you should find:

1. "repentance from acts that lead to death"

2 "faith in God"

3. "instruction about baptisms"

4. "the laying on of hands"

5. "the resurrection of the dead"

6. "eternal judgment

The intention is for you to find the questions yourself. Usually it is not too hard. :-)

4. Scripture has general topic questions. If you read the scriptures carefully you will find the answers in your heart, soul and mind. We do not provide answers.

Intro Training:

Heart Questions :-)

Follow this for more on the topics.

The heart questions require prayer, humility and introspection. The heart questions are tough because they are a test for your humility.

Wrong or right...just be honest with yourself and others. You will find that we all have similar weaknesses.

It will be hard for you if you are not supported by a friend, a friend that is not afraid to speak the truth and that loves God. Your friend will encourage you and keep you accountable to your own decision.

I still find these questions challenging but they are good for me.

On to maturity questions

:-)

My personal story, comment or opinion.

5. Each topic has life application questions. These questions are personal and challenging but helpful to grow if you are real and honest with yourself. No Pain .... No Gain.. :-)

BAPTISM

Are you baptized as a disciple of Jesus Christ?

Connected with the Keys

Baptism commanded

Mat_16:19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

On to Maturity

Left the counselor for the disciples

Who has the keys and to do what?

Mark 16

Matthew 28

Joh 14:16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

Mar 16:14 Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen. 15 He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Act 2:36-38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Mat 28:18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

What are the keys?

Is this teaching consistent with all the other scriptures about the meaning of baptism?

Mar 16:15 He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."

Faith in His power

Are you willing to be taught everything Jesus commanded after your baptism?

T

Eph 4:4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

Buried into Christ

Col 2:12 having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,

Receiving the Holy Spirit

What is the counselor?

Do you believe and understand the working of the Holy Spirit?

Have you received the Holy Spirit?

List all the possible baptisms?

What baptism did Peter and Paul teach the disciples?

Act 19:2-3 and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit." So Paul asked, "Then what baptism did you receive?" "John's baptism," they replied.

When are we circumcised by Christ?

Who’s hands are at work at baptism?

What do we need to be raised from the dead?

Who is doing the work at baptism?

Rom 6:1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. 5 If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection.

Do you believe there is only one baptism?

Act 2:38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Baptized into the Body

T

Gal 3:27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

Have you ever considered baptism as being the start of your new life?

Do the scriptures teach that we are saved at baptism?

Co 12:13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.

Mat 26:26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread. He gave thanks and broke it. He handed it to his disciples and said, "Take this and eat it. This is my body." 27 Then he took the cup. He gave thanks and handed it to them. He said, "All of you drink from it. 28 This is my blood of the new covenant. It is poured out to forgive the sins of many.

Noah's Saved through Water

Lev 16:23 "Then Aaron is to go into the tent of meeting and take off the linen garments he put on before he entered the Most Holy Place, and he is to leave them there. 24 He shall bathe himself with water in the sanctuary area and put on his regular garments. Then he shall come out and sacrifice the burnt offering for himself and the burnt offering for the people, to make atonement for himself and for the people.

Hint: You need Jesus blood over your sins!

For what reason did Aaron bathe himself?

What would the consequence be if he did not obey God's teaching?

1Pe 3:19 After being made alive, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits-- 20 to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also--not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
