VISION

HOW EXACTLY?

To mould an inclusive masterplan that is resilient, yet versatile, pragmatic but aspirational.

Harnessing local energies to create a well functioning transport interchange and high quality public realm.

THINKING ALOUD

The intention is not to just create a document but to be the glue for bringing ideas together.

We are thinking broadly about the wider travel and planning context; the station area is not an island.

Deploying a suite of operational, behavioural and physical design elements from the start.

THINKING ALOUD

PIECES

PIECE

We have identified three types of 'pieces' that must be thought about collectively as part of a town centre 'puzzle' in Stroud. They are all interrelated and impact on how the station area is used.

Gateway and Connectivity

DESCRIPTION

The tranisition across Station Road, Kings / Russell Street

Parking capacity, smarter allocations and utilisation

Parking and Circulation

Enhancing inclusive access and creating liveable places

Public Realm and Urban Space

Stroud Station Forecourt

A facility supporting activity during the course of a day

Stroud Railway Station

A high quality public realm and functioning interchange

SCOPE

Cycling

After the stakeholder engagement has taken place, a clearer picture over what can be achieved and was is desirable, will have emerged.

THEME

Station Rd

DISCUSSION

Consensus over issues and solutions across the board.

Demand and interest in upgrading local facilities.

Aesthetics

Local energy and capacity building / relationships.

Area Aesthetics

DESCRIPTION

At this stage we want to keep the momentum going where there is traction. We are hoping to part devolve responsability to mini groups to make tracks with us.

WHICH DESIGN

We want to present some of the ideas we have at this stage and to help you to visualise our thinking. Please feel free to critique!

WHICH

DESIGN?

This is a work in progress but we are looking to develop technical drawrings based on feedback from stakeholders.

GATEWAY AND CONNECTIVITY

1

INDICATIVE DESIGN

Offset parking along Station Road and create a clear, grade level and attractive gateway.

Explore re-allocating additional taxi vehicles to Rowcroft Retreat Road or Russell Street.

Designate a new 'business delivery bay' on Russell Street as a shared space for drop off & collections

Create a Delivery and Servicing Map for businesses to provide to suppliers (information updating).

Create grade level crossing extention across the confluence of roads to follow desire line paths.

Wayfinding and information 'totems' in addition to 'flexi' peak period kiss and drop' / delivery bays.

PARKING AND CIRCULATION

2

INDICATIVE DESIGN

Support operational changes to Brunel Mall MSCP

and create access link via SVA to Railway Station.

Re-align parking bays to maximise capacity and undertake a review of 'small bay' potential.

The Edible Stroud garden scheme; Tackling pinch point / create an integrated or seperate walkway.

Linking SVA aspirations with walkway feature and access to and from rear car park and MSCP.

Creating smooth tranisition from Cheapside to 'Up Platform' via a more defined walkway through car parks

Installing EV bays and better defining the car parking area (and taxi drop off pick up) adjacent to the station

STROUD STATION

FORECOURT

3

INDICATIVE DESIGN

Creating a living wall / mural as an opening feature to arriving in Stroud. Planters on railings / remove barrier

Investigating 'bay sensors' with retractable bollards for safeguarding disabled spaces. Location dependant.

Partial removal of hedge and three parking bays to create an 'outdoor' seating area. EV bay potential.

Grade level pedestrian corridors with wayfinding markers /lighting (simple) and onward travel 'totem'.

Designated, but reduced (6 to 2/3), taxi rank area with different alignment along hedge or railing.

Operational support around deliveries (and timing), employee travel arrangemenst to Imperial & Lord John
