- Government of Canada creates an endorsement fund to support Rick's leadership

- Won 19 international wheelchair marathons
- Won the World title 4 times
- 9 Gold medals at the 1982 Pan American Wheelchair Games
- Represents Canada at the 1980 and 1984 Olympics

- Rick Hansen works with Dr. John Steeves from UBC, and create ICORD (International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries)
- ICORD is a small group of researchers and clinicians to help people with SCI
- March 22, 1985 - Rick and team start the MIMWT
- Completed the equivalent of 3 marathons everyday through 34 different countries
- MIMWT went on for over 2 years
- In total, he wheeled for more than 40,000 km
- They raise $26 million for SCI research, rehabilitation and sports
- On June 27th, Rick and friend Don Alder were thrown from the back of a pickup truck on the way home from a fishing trip
- At age 15, Rick was permanently paralyzed from waist and below
- Comes back from rehab, and gets encouraged to join sports for the disabled
