Students Review Teachers

Alternatively, teachers could have a suggestion box, where students can anonymously give teachers comments

  • Every month
  • Are teachers motivated?
  • Are teachers enthusiastic?
  • Are students learning?
  • Improves teacher therefore improves the motivation of everyone

Cons

Cons

  • The students might not be honest
  • Relationship could get worse
  • Could take up a lot of time

Solution

Solution

  • Face to face discussion
  • Partially anonymous (teachers don't necessarily find out who said what
  • Only once per month, and a worthwhile time investment

Implementation

  • Once a month, a depute head teacher would meet with a small focus group of students
  • For example, one focus group would discuss the science faculty's teachers, regarding what the teachers are doing well and what could be improved
  • Then, the depute head can feedback to the teachers

Implementation

Alternatively, teachers could have a suggestion box, where students can anonymously give teachers comments

Work Period

A work period is an allocated time during the school day, where students complete work and assignments issued by teachers.

Teachers issue work to complete in work periods, therefore:

  • Less homework
  • Less stress at home
  • More relaxation

Cons

Cons

  • Longer school days or less lesson/free time
  • Students might not do anything
  • Teachers may need to work more

Solution

  • Less homework, therefore relatively little to do after school
  • Hand in work, if not completed it will become homework
  • Teachers often are prepared to volunteer time

Implementation

Implementation

Effectively a homework club (but not after school). The differences, however, would be that it is carried out on a larger scale, and that teachers can tailor work specifically for these periods.

Choice

  • Students can decide how they work and learn
  • Books or videos
  • Computers or books
  • Etc.

Cons

Cons

  • Students might abuse the system
  • Too many people could want to do too many different things

Solution

  • If a student abuses the system, he/she would get less to choose from
  • Compromise

Solution

Implementation

Implementation

  • At the start of a lesson the teacher will tell the students what facilities are available to use
  • Therefore the students can select within reason how they want to study/work

Tracking Progress

  • Keep students updated on how they're doing in their studies
  • A few times per month
  • Students get motivated because of their goals/progress

Cons

Cons

  • Takes a lot of time for teachers
  • Too much pressure

Solution

  • It is only once per month, and it is a worthwhile use of time
  • Pupils choose how many goals they set

Implementation

Implementation

  • Every month, the students will have a 1:1 meeting with each of their teachers (which are mandatory)
  • The meeting would last a maximum of 5 minutes, and meetings would occur throughout the duration of the month
  • Also, students will receive reports (tracking reports) once a month, detailing grades and progress

Peer Support

  • Does not cost money
  • Peers get more motivated
  • Students and teachers volunteer to participate
  • School promotes the group
  • Supporters get a reward
  • Structured schedule
  • Students and teachers will discuss who really needs support of their peers

Cons

Cons

  • It can be difficult to open up
  • It might use up too much of pupils' time

Solution

  • No one is forced to take part, they will get support from the counselor
  • Carried out during breaks/recess

Solution

Implementation

Implementation

  • Create a group comprised of teachers and pupils
  • Pupils will get a lot out of taking part, for example: kudos, content for their CV/personal statement
  • This could happen during breaks or lunch breaks
