The San Nicolás Valley, also known as the Eastern Altiplano, is a plateau located in the central mountain range of the Andes, east of the department of Antioquia, Colombia. In this valley there are 9 municipalities: Rionegro, La Ceja, La Unión, San Vicente, El Santuario, Marinilla, Guarne, El Carmen de Viboral y El Retiro
It has an approximate area of 1830 km² and altitudes that vary between 1900 and 2600 meters above sea level. Its temperature ranges between 9 and 24 ° C.
The Valley has an approximate length of 60 kilometers. It is framed by an irregular and sloping topography.

An average temperature of 17 degrees, with a minimum peak of 9 degrees and maximums of 24, makes Hydrangeas grow in the lands of eastern Antioquia, the flower that is most exported in this subregion of the department.
Today, most flowers sales occur in the United States, followed in order by England, Japan and Korea.
In the Eastern Antioquia, the largest number of hectares planted with Hydrangeas are located in La Ceja.
This subregion also produces Pompon, Carnation and Alstromeliae for export, although in a low quantity.
