What are the Four Sights?
Embellishment?
When the Buddha got curious about what was outside the palace walls, his father allowed him to take a journey with his charioteer, Channa. On this journey Siddhartha saw four sights of suffering
Buddhism- Dominique Side
- So have these four sights been exaggerated?
- Were they done on one trip or four separate journeys?
- Did he actually witness them or did he just hear of them?
We cannot be sure, these events happened years ago when nobody write anything down.
The Fourth Sight- Holy man
"It is possible that the high population densities of the new towns made illness and death seem more prevalent and widespread than they would do in a small village."
- Siddhartha saw a holy man on rock by the stream.
- Channa explained he was trying to find a way out to ultimate peace.
- This was the last straw.
Could this be a reason why his teachings became acceptable?
