The Poisonwood Bible

1) Nathan Price brings his family to the Congo for a mission.

2) Mama Tataba deserts the family.

3) Nathan forbids the family to flee the Congo- even though the political revolution is making it very dangerous for westerners to reside there.

4) An invasion of flesh-eating driver ants takes over the village covering everything in sight, and the entire population escapes toward the river.

5) Ruth May dies by getting bitten by a snake.

6) The family goes their separate ways.

LEAH

1) Leah is optimistic about their mission to Africa, unquestioningly sharing her father's view that they are carrying out God's work by bringing enlightenment to the uncivilized natives.

2) Leah is shocked to hear anyone talk to her father the way Mama Tataba did. She immediately goes to talk to her father and ask what Tataba said.

3) Leah is the only one that Nathan trusts to get on the sent "evacuation" plane to come with him to see the transfer of power.

4) Leah reaches a crisis of faith amid the turmoil. She begins to cry and repeat Anatole's name over and over and tells him that she loves him.

5) Leah has noticed two fang marks on Ruth May's shoulder. When Nelson screams for her to get milk, she cannot move.

6) Leah falls sick with Malaria and remains in the Congo with Anatole. They are married and have several children.

RACHEL

1) Rachel thinks of little other then herself and her vanity. She is repulsed by the natives of Kalinga as they warmly welcome her.

2) Admist her father being yelled at, Rachel is only considering her ruined birthday and how people don't appreciate her.

3) Rachel tries to get on the plane as well, desperate to escape the Congo, but her father flings her violently to the ground.

4) Rachel's only thoughts during the ant crisis are for herself. She attempts to force her way onto one of their neighbor's boats, and is shoved off.

5) Rachel thinks about the new impossibility of ever returning home and pretending that none of these years in the Congo had ever taken place.

6) Rachel attempts a luxerious hotel from her dead husband after being married three times.

RUTH MAY

1) Ruth May is excited and scared.

2) Ruth May watches as Mama Tataba leaves, but doesn't seem to react emotionally.

3) Ruth May crawls into bed with her upset mother and admits that she never wants to wake up.

4) Ruth May begins to cry and then remembers the amulet that Nelson gave to her. She tries to think hard about being a mamba snake.

5) Bro, she DEAD.

6) Ruth May, from the dead, forgives her mother.

ADAH

1) Adah doesn't speak much but provides many details of the lives of Kalinga natives.

2) Adah is shocked that Mama Tataba would talk to her father that way. She stands in the window with her mouth agape.

3)Adah takes great notice when Tata Kuvundu leaves a bowl of chicken bones on their door step. Even though her father is telling them they cannot leave, she notices these acts of kindness.

4) Adah feels betrayed and abandoned when Orleanna chooses to save Ruth May instead of her. She falls to the ground but Anatole picks her up and carries her to a boat.

5) Adah is paralyzed with fear. She stands and watchs her sister die silently.

6) Adah is a renowned epidemiologist working for the Center for Disease Control. She is completely cured of her limp and other oddities, and misses these handicaps.
