The Parthenon is located in Athens on the Acropolis, an ancient citadel located on a high rocky outcrop overlooking the city
Later History
- A major fire broke out in the Parthenon around 350AD which destroyed the Parthenon's roof and the interior, repairs were made in the fourth century AD
- The Parthenon remained as a temple dedicated to Athena for almost a 1000 years, until it was converted into a church
- Under Turkish rule it became a mosque.
