James Madison's proclamation of war

The most controversial topic surrounding James Madison was the war of 1812, which he created.

James major accomplishment was the creator of US constitution in 1787 and the Bill of Rights.

Years of presidency: 1809- 1817

He made the Democratic- Republican party with Thomas Jefferson. He also started the war of 1812. He was the initiator of the Bill of Rights as well.

James supported the rechartering of banks, he even signed a 20 year contract to re chart the second bank in the US.

  • Madison was fond of public policy.
  • Madison was part of the Virginia state legislature from 1776-1779.
  • James was apart of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom.
  • Madison was part of the Virginia House of Delegates in 1784-1786.
  • James Madison worked hard to help call a national convention in 1787.

James Madison

  • Full name James Madison Jr.
  • Born on March 16, 1751 in Port Conway, Virginia.
  • Grew up in Orange County, Virginia (where he died on June 28, 1836).
  • Oldest of 12 siblings, which only seven that lived to adulthood.
  • Father was successful planter with 3,000 acres of land and dozens of slaves.

  • 1762- went to boarding school and returned to James Madison Sr.'s estate (Montpelier) five years later.
  • Madison's father had him receive in home tutoring because of health issues.
  • 1769- 1771- went to the College of New Jersey (modern day Princeton University), where he studied Latin, Greek, Science, Philosophy and various other subjects.
