Will's Vision of Edward

" In telling the story of my father's life, it's impossible to separate the fact from the fiction, the man from the myth. The best I can do is to tell it the way he told me," (Burton).

Will explains that in his eyes his father is a very complicated man who told stories about his life that seem to crazy to be real. Will feels this way because he has struggled throughout his entire life to figure out who his father really was.

"The thing about icebergs is you only see 10% of them. The other 90% of it is below the water where you cant see it and that's how it is with you dad. I'm only seeing this little bit that sticks above the water," (Burton).

In this scene Will believes that Edward has never told a single fact and that all his stories are lies. He's beginning to tell his dad that it is hard to see the truth behind all his lies. The fact that his dad is dying is what is Will's struggle because he's running out of time to figure out who his dad really is.

Edward's Stories

Just like in fairytales, Edward's stories always had a lesson behind them. Each story had some truth behind them, people just had to read behind all the crazyness to see it.

William's Birth

In the scene when Dr. Bennett and Will are talking Dr. Bennett asks will if his dad ever told him the story of how he was born. Wills responce is that his dad ,Edward, caught and uncatchable fish. Whenever Dr. Bennett respondes he tells will that his dad wasn't even there the day that Will was born. The meaning that Dr. Bennett was trying to get across is that his dad made up the crazy story of his birth so that to Will the story of his birth will always be unforgetable and not just some boring story. (Burton)
