Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. is a sorority based on the Latino culture.

The history of this organization goes back to 1985 in Troy, New York. The sorority itself was founded on September 29, 1990, by 13 aspiring young women from four different schools in the state of New York:

State University of New York at Albany,

State University of New York at Stony Brook,

State University of New York at New Paltz, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

To stand for accomplishments of excellence and education among women

To constantly strive toward the expansion of awareness of the Latino and diverse Cultures

To promote sisterhood and leadership.

  • Currently we have over 50 chapters in 10 states and are the third largest Latina sorority in the country.
  • Our chapters are composed of undergraduate, graduate and professional women.

  • Established November 13, 1991
  • One of the Founding Schools
  • 3 Founding Sisters, line is known as "Eva" crossed in the Spring of 1992

  • “Rudi” simply means that you decided to look into our organization further, as well as furthering learning how to become part of our organization.
  • This group is open to all undergraduate students who desire to learn more about Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. and about the Latino culture.
  • Eligibility for Rudi-SIA is open to all full-time undergraduate members of the New Paltz community.
