Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (LGMD)
Symptoms
- They begin to walk weird because of weakness of the hip and leg muscles.
- Loss of muscle mass, thinning of certain body parts
- Trouble getting up from the toilet and getting up stairs
What is LGMD?
- Breathing can become hard to do at times
How to prevent this?
- It’s a group of disorders affecting voluntary muscles, mainly those around the hips and shoulders.
- There's the shoulder girdle and the pelvic girdle that are known to be limb girdles.
- Genetic counseling may help some couples and families learn about the risks and help with family planning.
- Can be prevented with appropriate treatment.
- It is the muscles connected to the limb girdles that are the most affected in LGMD.
