Pop music has a very wide spread age group and gender, this is because pop music belongs to a number of different genres as it is any type of music that is current.

The typical audience for the pop music genre is between 16 and 21 and is mainly aimed at girls.

In many cultures across the world girls are seen as unimportant are more than often are abducted and sold for the purposes of sex, slavery and marriage. In 2014 the “Bring Back Our Girls” campaign began in order to get the attention of people around the world.

This is because on the 14th of April 2014, 276 schoolgirls were abducted from their hostels by members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, in Chibok, Borno State, Nigeria. The girls have yet to be rescued after: 668 days (this was the number of days recorded on 11/02/2016).

In Britain today Arranged marriages and FGM are becoming more common for young girls.

Social media influences sterotypes world wide using varouis platforms. These platforms include:

  • reading articles
  • watching TV shows, interviews, documentries and music videos
  • listening to music and radio interviews
  • adverts

Therefore media is largely responsible for creating stereotypes.

Women are often portayed as being desperate to get married. In the film Bride wars this is portrayed to the full extent as two best friends are shown competing against and ruining elements of each others wedding day in order to have their wedding on the day that they want.
