Diagnosing a Torn ACL/Meniscus:
Options to Repair the ACL:
1. Symptoms: loose, buckles, unstable, heard a "pop", swollen
2. X-ray: rule out any bone damage
3. MRI: will shown torn ACL and meniscus
Activities
1. No surgery:
- Not completely torn, possibility of healing with rest
- physical therapy
- Monday and Friday were spent in the OR
- Other days were spent in the office
- I observed all the surgeries
- In the office I observed small procedures and observed how he interacted with patients
- I learned about procedures done, surgeries performed and diagnostics
2. Surgery:
- Will not heal on own
- returning to athletics or is causing extreme discomfort
- four different graft options:
- Cadaver
- Patellar Tendon
- Hamstring Tendon
- Quad Tendon
