The Diary of Anne Frank
Made By: Mollie
The Theme of the Diary of Anne Frank
The Diary of Anne Frank taught me that I should appreciate the life I have right now. The Franks, Van Daans, Mr. Dussel, and all Jews suffered greatly during that time. I would probably never be able to do what the people of the secret annex did for two years. It's helped me learn that I should enjoy life outside my home and that I can be free to go anywhere I want whenever I want to.
The Helpers
Miep - Miep helps the people in the secret annex by bringing the food and supplies. She also brings news from the outside to them.
Mr. Kraler - Mr. Kraler basically had the same job as Miep. He brought up food, supplies and news. He hides the Franks, Van Daans, and Mr. Dussel behind a book case that they bolt shut after Miep and Mr. Kraler leave.
The Adults
Otto Frank - father of Anne and Margot Frank and the husband of Edith Frank. Helped hide the Franks, Van Daans, and Mr. Dussel. Keeps the family calm during their time in the annex. Is very hopeful that all of them will make it through the war.
Edith Frank - mother of Anne and Margot Frank and the wife of Otto Frank. Edith is very quiet and inward about her feelings. She always wants to help Anne out, but Anne refuses to be comforted by her mother.
Mrs. Van Daan - mother of Peter Van Daan and the wife of Hermann Van Daan. She is often very selfish and way too flirty with Mr. Frank. She gets upset when Mr. Van Daan smokes too much.
Mr. Van Daan - father of Peter Van Daan and the husband of Auguste Van Daan. He is a very selfish man. Mr. Van Daan smokes a lot of cigarettes and it makes his wife mad. He is often very grumpy.
Mr. Dussel - Mr. Dussel was a dentist. He often got into fights with Anne about who gets the desk in their room. He is often very selfish when it comes to sharing stuff with others.
My Favorite Lines
"There are no walls, no bolts, no locks that anyone can put on your mind." ~Otto Frank
"In spite of everything, I still believe that people are good at heart." ~Anne Frank
"For the past two years we have lived in fear. Now we can live in hope." ~Otto Frank
Setting
Conflict and the Climax
Conflicts
There was often conflict between Anne and Mr. Dussel. Mr. Dussel does not like sharing things with Anne. He is often selfish with the desk in their room. Mr. Dussel doesn't like how Anne thrashes around in her sleep.
Mr. Van Daan and Mrs. Van Daan often fight, too. Mrs. Van Daan doesn't like that Mr. Van Daan smokes a lot and she thinks that's why he is cranky all the time. Mr. Van Daan tries to give Miep Mrs. Van Daan's fur coat to sell it and get him more money to buy cigarettes.
Climax
The climax of the story happens when the Franks, Van Daans, and Mr. Dussel hear a noise from downstairs. A thief was downstairs when Peter made a loud noise while trying to turn the light off. They were all very frightened that they have been discovered.
The setting of the story starts in Mr. Frank's business building after the war ends. When Miep gives Mr. Frank Anne's diary, the setting changes to the secret annex above Mr. Frank's business.
The Children
Anne Frank - the younger daughter of Edith and Otto Frank. She was a teen girl who went into hiding during the Holocaust. She wrote everything in her diary that went on while she was in hiding.
Margot Frank - the eldest daughter of Edith and Otto Frank. She is the quiet obedient daughter of the Frank family. She is considered the more beautiful and intelligent of the two.
Peter Van Daan - the only son of Auguste (Petronella) and Hermann Van Daan. He is a shy person and loves his cat Mouschi. Peter was Anne's boyfriend.
