Global Influence

Malachowski showed that barriers should not exist, and they should do whatever is possible to reach their goal. She has faced prejudice when she was a girl. When she took flying lessons, she wasn't eligible to be a fighter pilot, and her teacher who not surprisingly was male, told her just that. She talks to discouraged people all the time. She says, "Don't become distracted from your goals by negative people.... Eliminate them and keep on going.... Just fly your plane."

Career

Childhood Achievements

Nicole applied for undergraduate flying lessons at the Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi. After overcoming the height and prejudice barriers for being a fighter pilot, she trained at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in NC. She later served there. In 2005, Malachowski applied and was accepted as a Thunderbird pilot, being the first woman ever to do so. Three years later, Malachowski served at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada. She was a 2nd and 1st Lieutenant, Captain, and Major. She was invited to join the White House Fellows from 2008 to 2009, then returned to the Air Force to become a Lieutenant Colonel, which she is to this day.

Nicole Malachowski was born Nicole Ellingwood on September 26, 1974. In high school, she was a cadet member of the Nevada Wing of the Civil Air Patrol and participated in AFJROTC, where she was rated cadet colonel, the highest rank a cadet could achieve.
