Conclusion

Evidence

Back Story

The high levels of gamma-aminobutyric and glycine in Brendon's blood shows that he was most likely awoken by his wife and attacked. Based off of the victim's head injury and the corresponding blood splatter on the kitchen counter, we can conclude that there was foul play in the moments leading up to the victim's death. The depth of the ligature marks do not correlate with the amount of time the victim would have been suspended before Zoey came home. Lastly, with the finding of Zoey's DNA under Brendons fingernails, and the motive being the victim's life insurance, the only plausible conclusion is that Brendon Carter was murdered by Zoey Carter who then proceeded to stage the scene as a suicide. When Zoey woke up her husband, she immediately began to attack him, resulting in the scratches and hematomas found over the victim's body. As the struggle moved to the kitchen, Zoey administered the lethal blow to Brendon's head that caused his death. She then proceeded to suspend the victim from the ceiling fan and attempt to clean the blood from the tile and carpet that was left behind as she dragged his lifeless body. Unfortunately, Zoey forgot to wash both the counter top, and her hands of the victims blood and left traces of Brendon's DNA on her cell phone when she called 911. This does not match up with her alibi because she states that upon seeing her husband's body, she immediately called 911 without any further investigation of the crime scene.

On Tuesday September 8th, wealthy business man, Brendon Carter returned from a month long rehabilitation program. Brendon was admitted to the rehabilitation center by his wife, Zoey Carter, because of his addiction cocaine. Upon returning to his home around noon, he discovers his wife having an affair with another man.

As can be expected, Brendon becomes extremely upset and speaks to family and close friends about possibly ending his troubled relationship over the phone. Three days later, Brendon is found dead in his apartment by his wife who then calls the police.

When police arrived, Zoey, in distress, was escorted off of the premises and to the police station for questioning. Brendon's body, found hanged from the living room ceiling fan, showed tell-tale signs of suicide... at first glance.

Brendon Carter's Trauma Injury

blood found on counter edge

Nebraska Woman Leaves Court Room With Dropped Charges In The Case Of Husbands Mysterious Death.

  • Blood found on the edge of a kitchen counter that corresponds with Brendon Carter's blood
  • coagulation shows that the blood on the counter edge and the blood sample from the victim's blunt force trauma injury on the dorsal cranial region were released from the body at the same time
  • DNA under Carter's fingernails matches Zoey Carter's DNA
  • ligature marks on the cervical region of the victim are not deep enough to support long term suspension of the body
  • Brendon's blood appears on the telephone Zoey used to call 911
  • bleach and other cleaning supplies are found on the kitchen counter
  • traces of bleach are found on the floor spanning from the kitchen counter containing Brendon's blood to the location of the victim's body

Brendon Carter's Body and Autopsy

Zoey Carter's Alibi

  • The body was found hanging vertically, appendages slouched proximal to the trunk
  • blood dripped distally to the carpal region from a trauma wound found medial to the otic region
  • small hematomas extend from the scapular region to the carpal region on both upper appendages and also on the anterior of the upper right quadrant
  • manus shaped hematomas on the carpal region of both upper appendages
  • No sign of cyanosis on the victim's skin or mucous membranes
  • Traces of DNA found under victim's' fingernails matching Zoey Carter's DNA
  • victim suffered a concussion shortly before death
  • blunt force trauma injury medial to the left otic region.
  • normal levels of carbon dioxide found in blood inconsistent with death by hanging
  • abnormally shallow ligature marks on the cervical region
  • gamma-aminobutyric and glycine found in abundance in victims blood, showing that the victim most likely died within minutes of waking up, not providing enough time to prepare for a suicide.
  • forensic toxicology shows no signs of poisoning

Zoey Carter states that she was at a local supermarket just two blocks away at the time of the victim's death which is estimated to be about 4 P.M.. She says she then returned home at 5 p.m. to find her husband hanged from the ceiling fan and immediately called 911.
