Nicaragua Grand Canal

Thank you for your time!

General Facts

It could create a "dead zone" with no aquatic life living in those ares of the lake.

The canal will cost $50 billion.

The canal will be able to acomadate ships up o 23,000 TEUs.

The End!

Introduction

The Nicaragua Grand Canal should NOT be built. The canal shouldn’t be built because it would pollute Lake Nicaragua, it may not even be finished, and many countries may not need or want it.

Supporting Ideas

Finally, many countries may not need it. The United States would not use it because their ships are not big enough and their ports would need to spend a very large amount of money to build ships big enough to use it. Many other countries would also need to build bigger ships. Many Nicaraguan citizens protest against it and they don’t even want it.

Second, The canal may not even be finished. There have been over 70 attempts to build a canal in Nicaragua, none of them succeeding. Many people around the world are skeptical it will even happen. Eric Farnsworth, Vice President of the Americas Society and Counsil of the Americas says “The vision is very significant, but many people, including myself are very skeptical it will happen.”

First, it would pollute Lake Nicaragua. Lake Nicaragua is Central America’s number 1 water source. The water in Lake Nicaragua is currently suitable for drinking and for irrigation, but if this continues it will not be able to be drunk from ever again. It would kill many animals in the lake and it would create a ‘dead zone’ in parts of the lake with no aquatic life at all.
