MEASUREMENT OF ROLLER CHAIN USING FORM GAUGE
SOLUTION
- The solution to this problem is using a form gauge.
- Form gauge made up of medium carbon steel.
- This method involves usage of simple form gauge which is designed in the manner to check the parallelism and eccentricity.
INSPECTION METHOD
Pro-E DESIGN
- The company inspected the chain parts they manufacture by using vernier caliper and vernier height gauge.
- The main disadvantage of this inspection method is it's time consumption.
- Thus the company requires a solution to minimize the time consumption for inspection.
Contd..
DEFINITIONS
The form gauge is made to fit in the chain link.
NOGO SIDE:
If the gauge does not go inside the chain link ,then the pin is parallely aligned and also no eccentricity. Because this is made up of same dimension.
GO SIDE:
If the gauge goes inside the chain link ,then the pin is not parallely aligned and also eccentricity.Because this is made up of larger than the no go side.
PARALLELISM:
When the axis of two pins under inspection are parallel to each other, it is known as parallelism between pins.
ECCENTRICITY:
When the pins center gets offset then the original shape of the pin gets changed. This is known as eccentricity.
ASSEMBLING PROCEDURE
- The pin is press fitted to two outer link plates,
- While the bush is press fitted to inner link plates,
- The bush and the pin form a swivel joint and the outer link is free to swivel with respect to the inner link.
Contd..
- The rollers are freely fitted on bushes.
- The inner and outer link plates are blanked from cold rolled sheets and hardened to 50 HRC.
- The pin, bushes and rollers are made of case carburizing alloy steels and hardened to 50 HRC.
CHAIN
A chain can be defined as a series of links connected by pin joint.
