4 types of diseases caused by the chlamydia organism

Threats?

- Conjunctivitis; which can cause blindness

- Pneumonia

- Urinary Tract Infections

- Reproductive Tract Infections; which can cause female infertility.

Symptoms of chlamydia manifest as sore eyes, chest infections, and "wet bottom" or "dirty tail".

- Dieback; Gradual dying of trees due to;

- Land degradation, leaching of soil nutrients, changes in

composition of vegetation communities, rising water levels underground, salination (or salting-up) of the soil, erosion caused by wind and water, exposure to weather and excessive defoliation (or loss of leaves)

Koalas are solitary animals mostly, but they do live in communities.

Each Koala has a home range

Some ranges tend to overlap, mostly males over females.

Faithful to ranges, will try to go back if moved out

Reproduction

Single Joey. Twins rare. 34-36 day gestation

Remains in the pouch until 5.5 - 6 months

Fully emerge 6 - 6.5 months after pap feeding.

8 - 8.5 months, are too big to return to pouch, will become what is termed ‘back young’ until they are around 12 months old.

Complete independence from mother occurs 12 to 18 months old.

Food?

There are 600 types of eucalyptus trees, but koalas will only eat 40-50 varieties with only about 10 being preferred
