Structure of the endocrine system

Diabetes & the Endocrine System

Type 1 diabetes

  • Type 1 diabetes is typically found in children and young adults
  • Type 1 diabetes does not produce insulin.
  • Insulin is a hormone that is produced in the body
  • Insulin is needed to convert sugar, starches and other kinds of food into energy needed for daily life.

Type 2 Diabetes

What is Diabetes?

  • Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes.
  • With type 2 diabetes, the body does not use insulin properly
  • The pancreas ( which make the insulin) create extra insulin but eventually it isn't able to keep up and can not make enough insulin to keep the blood glucose at normal levels.

Treatment strategies

and how we could prevent such a disease:

  • Diabetes is a problem with someone's body that causes blood glucose ( sugar) levels to rise higher than normal.
  • There are two kinds of diabetes; Type 1 and Type 2
  • Check blood levels with blood sugar monitor
  • Go to the doctor for check ups
  • Avoid foods with high sugar

What are the symptoms of having diabetes?

What body system does diabetes affect?

Sites Consulted:

What are glands?

What are hormones?

  • Diabetes affects the Endocrine system
  • The common symptoms are: urinating often, feeling thirsty, feeling hungry, tiredness, laziness, blurry vision, cuts or bruises that heal slowly, wight loss, and pain or numbness in the hands and feet.

What is the Endocrine System?

  • Glands produce and discharge hormones.
  • The hormones regulate the body's growth and the sexual development of the body.
  • Hormones are chemicals in the body.
  • Hormones transfer messages to and from cells.

Pancreas

  • It includes all of the glands in the body and it also includes the hormones produces by the glands as well as the pancreas.
  • There is a gland organ in the upper abdomen called the "pancreas."
  • The pancreas breaks down the proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and the nucleic acids in food.
  • The pancreas release the hormone insulin into the body to control blood sugar levels.
