Stereotypes towards Muslim students are misdirecting.

  • Recent events in Islamic world and the western media's distorted coverage of said events contribute to stereotypes of Muslim culture.

  • The stereotypes lead to a simple labels of said culture.

  • muslim women are seen as subjugated, veiled, secluded, and oppressed by educators.

  • Due to the lack of awareness, schools have almost become segregated.

Feminists being criticized for hypocrisy

  • Teachers are unaware that Western Feminist have been criticized

  • There is a lack of sensitivity towards the race and culture specifically involving Muslim culture.

  • Educators both male and female are encouraged to appropriate feminism while remaining oblivious towards the issues of women in other cultures.

  • Women in western culture believe they have already achieved equality while undermining other cultures' definition of equality such as women wearing a Burqa which seems like they are being oppressed.

  • Muslim students have also taken advantage of the stereotypes put upon them.
  • Many educators see the culture as backwards and oppressed and that adapting to western culture is an easier way of living.
  • 2 important challenges were made toward political and academic thought which helped people to understand how to deal with racism and sexism towards Muslim women.
  • Unfortunately, these challenges never reached the education system especially at the elementary and secondary levels.
  • This lead to reinforced colonial perceptions, meaning the education system only focused on the media's interpretation of the culture.
  • Educators, administrators and students still rely on old and new stereotypes.
