When alaska became a state.
January 3, 1959. Alaska was purchased from Russia for 7.2 million dollars. The Senate approved the treaty and Pres. Andrew Johnson signed it on October 18, 1867. Alaska didn't become the 49th state of U.S. until January 3, 1959 when Pres. Eisenhower signed the declaration.
