His Investigations
- Born on November 14, 1908.
- Went to a one house school
- Starts his own chicken business, business folds, and he goes to high school at 21
- Then he enrolls in Marquette University
- Elected into the U.S. senate in 1946.
- He claimed he had a list of 205 people who were known members of the American Communist Party
- They were proven to not be communists, some were just Alcoholics.
- He investigated for over two years, questioning numerous government departments, and witch-hunts were started to be known as "McCarthyism".
- Then started accusing innocent citizens of being associated with communism
- He accused Owen Lattimore, Louis Budenz, and Drew Pearson.
What is a witch hunt?
The act of unfairly looking for and punishing people who are accused of having opinions that are believed to be dangerous or evil.

Why were Americans concerned about Communism during the 1950s?
Americans were concerned about communism because of the events known as "Red Scare":
- In 1949, the Soviet Union successfully tested a nuclear bomb and communist forces led by Mao Zedong took control of China.
- The following year saw the start of the Korean War (1950-53), which engaged U.S. troops in combat against the communist-supported forces of North Korea
