SITUATION: “"In the interest of helping students achieve a more well-rounded college experience, I applied and was hired as an RA in a freshman residence hall."
TASK: "It was the start of the year and I knew many of the freshman on my hall were nervous about starting college and were specifically worried about finding their classes."
ACTION: "I arranged a "Map Your Classes" event the night before school began in which I taped campus maps to everyone's door. I told them all to meet me in the lobby at a certain time where we would take a campus tour. I provided highlighters so they could highlight their paths as we walked. After the tour, I had a Q&A session where the coeds could ask me any questions they had. Cupcakes made it a bit more enticing as well."
RESULTS: "Stepping up and taking this opportunity to be a peer leader, sharing my own thoughts and experiences, allowed for calmed nerves and enhanced excitement. The tour and q&a session proved to be helpful and informative."
