TIMELINE OF CIVIL LIBERTIES AND CIVIL RIGHTS

ANALYTICAL STATEMENTS OF GROWTH TO AMERICAS CIVIL LIBERTIES
1.Revisions of laws, amendments, and regulations will continue to happen in the future due to the changing dynamics of our country.
2.Since the founding documents our country was founded on we have seen continual growth to any Americans Civil Liberties.
3.Civil Liberties are important as foundations for moral beliefs in our country. Laws that surround these liberties help diminish racism and discrimination to all that are affected.

1991 Civil Rights Acts- this act prohibits unlawful intent to discriminate in the work place.
1990 Americans with Disability Act- This act prohibits discrimination against anyone that has a mental or physical disability to participate in all aspects society.
1973 Rehabilitation Act- This act prohibits discrimination basis of disability in programs conducted by federal agencies, receiving federal financial assistance, and federal employment. (eeoc.gov)

1787 United States Constitution-On May 14, 1787, our constitution was formed. The intentions before this document was made were to revise the Articles of Confederation. It was determined at that time that a new government had to be formed. (Charters of Freedom).
1791 Bill of Rights- The Bill of Rights is the first ten amendments that are in the United States Constitution. These rights were made in support of individual liberties and limit government power. (Bill of Rights Institute)
1776 Declaration of Independence- Between the dates of June 11th and June 28th Thomas Jefferson drafted this document. Jefferson summarized this declaration from John Locke and the Continental philosophers about individual liberties. The self-evident truths list grievances against the King to justify separation between the colonies and England. This document is labeled as an important symbol of liberty. (Charters of Freedom)
1868 14th Amendment Ratification- On July, 9, 1868, the 14th Amendment was ratified to grant citizenship to “all persons born in the United States and it also forbade states to deny any person life, liberty, or property, without due process. (loc.gov)
1866 Civil Rights Act- This Act was written to create civic equality following the Civil War. There were three primary objectives to integrate blacks into American society after slavery. They are:
1.Every person that is born in the United States was to be declared as a citizen.
2.Define American citizenship
3.To create an Act that made it unlawful to deprive person rights of citizenship due to race, color, or prior slavery involvement. (encyclopedia.com)
1963 Equal Pay Act- This cat was enabled to prohibit sex based wage discrimination between men and women in the same establishment. (eeoc.gov)
1965 Executive Order 11246- This policy was put in place for the government of the United States to provide equal opportunity in Federal employment for all that is qualified and to prohibit discrimination within government work. (eeoc.gov)
1964 Civil Rights Act- This act prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, and national origin. (eeoc.gov)
1920 19th Amendment- This Amendment guarantees all American women the right to vote.
1967 ADEA- The Age Discrimination in Employment Act prohibits employment discrimination against persons 40 years of age or older. (eeoc.gov)
