Annual Salary
- According to data published by the FBI, newly assigned special agents receive a base salary of $43,441, plus locality pay ranging from 12.5% to 28.7% of base, as well as availability pay, which equates to a 25% increase in adjusted salary due to the requirement that agents average 50-hour work weeks.

Transportation
The agent with have his/her own vehicle along with either driving or riding in a squad car while on duty. At times agents can be called into cases in other states, if so, agents will be transported in a private government airplane.

- The FBI method of profiling is a system created by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) used to detect and classify the major personality and behavioral characteristics of an individual based upon analysis of the crime or crimes the person committed.
Special Agent Requirements
- Most people mistakenly think the FBI actually has profiler positions, but this is inaccurate. The position with the FBI commonly referred to as a "profiler" is actually that of a Special Agent assigned to the National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime at Quantico, Virginia.
- Be between 23 and 36 1/2 years of age to achieve 20 years of service prior to mandatory retirement at age 57
- Possess a bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by one of the regional or national institutional associations recognized by the United States Secretary of Education.
- Have at least three years of full-time work experience
