What does research say about cellphones and youth?
- Research shows that 22% of children from the age 6 to 9 have a cellphone or access to cell phone usage.
- 60% of kids from ages 10-14 also currently have cellphones and access to other technological devices, and a whopping 80% of children over 15 are given cellphones as well.
- Teens with cellphones has steadily increased from 18% to nearly 40% since 2004.
- What is an appropriate age to give a child a cellphone?
- Survey says most parents give their children cellphones by sixth grade. Most decide it is a good idea from a safety standpoint.
- Doctors in research have been concerned that over-exposure to screens has an impact on attention span and concentration.
