How are gouts and kidney stones similar?

Kidney Stones, Gallstones and Gout

The two are similar because they are both caused by uric acid. But, gouts is found in blood and kidneys stones are crystallized from the uric acid and are in the urine.

How are kidney stones and gallstones compared as? Do they have the same make up?

Kidney stones are hard crystalline structures that are formed in the kidney or urinary tract. Gallstones are hard lumps in the gallbladder. The stones are different is their position in the body and how they are made up within the body. Both can be in a person and they wont even know until they get large enough to cause pain and discomfort.

Methods to treating kidney stones

Treatments will depend on how big the stones are. One of the main types of treatments are the doctor will send a shock wave through you body to crush the stone so that it could pass through your urinary tract. This is called shock wave lithotripsy.

The next for of treatment is ureteroscopy. This is a long skinny tube with an eye piece, so the doctor can find the stone then try break it down with lazer energy.

The last main type of treatment is percutaneous nephrolithotomy. This is when the doctor uses a wire tool to find the stone then remove it. But it the stone is large shock waves will be sent through the body to break it down then the wire tool will find and remove the stone pieces.

What role does equilibrium play in their formation?

The role that equilibrium has in the formation of kidney stones can be best described as, it shows the formation of the stones from calcium oxalate. The equation is 2CaC2O4(s) <-> Ca2(aq) + 2C2O4(aq). This shows the reversible reaction of solid calcium oxalate breaking down to form calcium ions and oxalate acids. There are calcium ions found in the kidney, so when oxalate acids can enter the kidney, the reaction shown above can happen and kidney stones may form.

What do Kidney Stones look like?

How do Kidney Stones form?

Kidney stones are caused by having high levels of substances in urine, like calcium, phosphate or oxalate. You can also get kidney stones from eating certain foods. Digestive problems, heredity, and blocking of the urinary tract can give you a higher risk of getting kidney stones. Also, not drinking enough water may give you a high chance of getting kidney stones.

Are all kidney stones made from the same substance?

Kidney stones come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They may be as small as a grain of sand or as large as a pebble. They also maybe rough looking, kind of like a crystal. Or, they can be smooth looking, like a smooth little rock. They are usually yellow or brown.

No, doctors found different kinds of stones. Some are Crystine Stones which are passed from a mother to a child. Some are Struvite stones which may be present after a kidney infection. Calcium is usually apart of a kidney stone but different types of acids may react with calcium such as uric acid. Also, there are stones called phosphate stones, these have phosphate instead of calcium.

Does heredity play a role in kidney stones?

Heredity does play a role in kidney stones. If someone had kidney stones if you family then there is a higher chance that you will get kidney stones too. But, they can get prevented by doing the necessary deeds to prevent them.

How can you prevent these diseases?

For kidney stones try to avoid foods with high oxalate contents such as peanuts, grapes, and chocolate.

For gall stones have a good diet, low fat and eat lots of veggies.

Always drink enough water!!!
