August Valentine Kautz was a German-American soilder and Union Army Cavarly officer during the Civil War. Kautz later assisted in the operations as a colonel with the 2nd ohio cavarly against Confederate General John Hunt Morgans.

General Robert E. surrendered to Ulysses S.Grant in a farmhouse in the town of Appomattox Court House,Virginia. Lee surrendered on April 9,1865 then the war was over.

A zouave regiment was characterized by its soldiers bright,colorful uniforms which usually included baggy trousers,a vest amd a fez in different combinations of red,white,blue uniforms. Union and confederate armies used it.

On the third day of the battle of gettysburg,General Robert E. Lee orders General Goerge Pickett to attack entrenched union positions. This became known as "Picketts charge"more than 12,000 confederate soildiers get killed.This was on July 3,1863.

The Telegraph invented by Samuel Morse in 1844,and telegraph wires soon was sprang up all along the east coast. During the Civil War,15,000 miles of was laid.Mobile telegraph wagons reported and recieved communications.

The Rifle-Musket is the coomon weapn to use in the civil war for infantryman. It was different from a regular musket because of its rifling cut into the side of the barrel. When the exploding powder thrusts the bullet foward the rifling makes it spin.

Beggining of after the unsuccesful attack of the city of petersburg by Ulysses S.Grant he constructed trenches around the eastern portion of richmond.Genral Robert E. Lee arrmy retreated. This was on June 9,1864-March 25,1865.
