Swings

Beginner

This movement is beginner sending. His centre is not low to his base of support, allowing some type of rotation or velocity if needed. He has control and awareness over his body, He is focused on keeping his body fixed in order to succesfully putt the ball by only moving his shoulders and arms.

Intermediate

Locomotions

This woman is demonstrating an intermediate swing, her knees are not very bent, allowing her to rotate her core and knees in order to generate velocity and power for her send. She still remains control while she hits the ball.

Beginner

Advanced

Beginner

This is basic, or beginner locomotion. Her limbs are working in opposition (left leg forward right arm up), Her centre of gravity is directly over her bass of support and her body is faced where she is going. Because she is moving in a forward motion, she is exhibiting a foot-strike pattern

Sending

As the player swings the bat, his knees are slightly bent and he is facing his desired target. After hitting the ball with the bat, his grip was exchanged from

of heel ball on every step. Other examples of beginner locomotions are jogging backward, or even just walking.

primarily the right hand, to the left hand. This allowed him to slow down his velocity gradually rather than coming to a sudden stop which can, in some instances, harm joints.

This is classified as beginner sending because her body is aligned with her target, she is maintaining visual contact and her limbs are in opposition. Her wide stance and lowered centre of gravity is maximizing her stability. Being right handed, she steps forward with her left foot, making it both easier and more comfortable to send the ball with accuracy and power.

Intermediate

During and after she sends the ball, she keeps eye contact with the target, aiding in hand-eye coordination.

This is an intermediate locomotion because he is running with very strong strides. He is using the power of his legs and arms together in order to propel his body forward faster and with much more velocity. As he is running, his back foot is pushing off the ground very forcefully.which is generating velocity.

Intermediate

Advanced

This is advanced locomotion. She is strongly propelling hemself to the side with her plant foot, her arms are working in opposition to her feet and she is using many of her major muscle groups together in order maximize the power of her strides. She has a good sense of balance and she is exibiting a

This Man is displaying intermediate sending because his feet are in a staggered position, he is demonstrating a pre-stretch, or wind-up along with a large range of motion. By moving is arm back, he is increasing the power of his serve without having to use much muscle power. To maximize his power, his arm should be relaxed until he has made contact with the ball, at that point his muscles should contract. Using a raquet, the man could also use a wrist snap, though in tennis, this is not often used because both the ball and the raquet are fairly heavy compared to a squash, or badminton raquet. In order to hit the ball in the intended diretion, during contact his shoulders, abdomen and raquet should end up in the diretion he has aimed for.

Advanced

ball to heel to ball strike pattern with her feet. Though durations of each section of the step may vary according to the person and their speed

This is advanced sending. His hips are squared to his target and he is showing a wide range of motion in his wind up. Other than his arms, the player has also used his major leg muscles in order to push off the ground to meet the ball at a high point, in volleyball, this is useful because in order to drive the ball in the straightest, most powerful line to the floor, he is needed to be higher than the net. The higher

extended forward, it is aiding in balance so that the player can bring his arm back and increase shoulder rotation in maximize the power of his spike

the angle, the more succesful the shot. With the opposite arm

Rotations

Intermediate

Beginner

In this video is an example of a beginner rotation. The student keeps her limbs tucked in as she rolls in order to keep herself balanced and stabilized in her rotation. Because she is rolling on a balance beam, she needs to make sure she is keeping her balance in order to keep herself from falling off by tightening her core, or making sure all of her body is in the rotational line. It is also nessecary that her body is rotation aroud the axis of rotation, in this case being the space in the centre of her body.

This picture exhibits intermediate rotations. She is speeding up her rotation by pulling in and tightening her body. By pulling herself in, she pulls her centre of gravity into the rotational axis, this generates velocity. She keeps her body in a line by keeping limbs in tight by her sides, by doing so, it helps her keep her balance while in the rotation for a safe and proper landing.

Advanced

In this video, the man demonstrates a flip that begins as an intermediate flip, rotating on one axis and ends with a flip having more than one axis. As he continues with his routine, he generates more centrifugal force and his velocity increases, making his rotations both tighter and faster.

Recieving

Basic Movement

Patterns

Intermediate

Beginner

This is beginner receiving because her eyes are looking at the incoming ball, her body is facing the direcction from which it is coming and her centre of gravity is inside her base of support. Because of her wide support base, she is maintaining stability in order to effectively recieve the ball. Also, by having her hands out and ready, she is prepared to properly absorb the ball to gain control when it reaches her.

This man demonstrates intermediate sending because he is showing hand-eye coordination, he knows where the ball is going to be, and his centre of gravity is still in his base of support. Even though he has lost some stability by leaning forward, he still maintains his balance. He is leaning forward in order to get in front of the ball to absorb the catch. By keeping his eye on the ball, his hand should follow, improving his chances of cathing the ball properly.

Statics

Advanced

I classified this as advanced sending. Known as the famous "Helmet catch"made by David Tyree at the 42nd Superbowl, Tyree absorbed the ball while in an off balance state, the ball was coming at a very fast speed, and even though he did not land back on his feet, he read the situation and used his helmet in order to keep the ball from the opposition. As he noticed the opposing players arm reach for the ball, he quickly tucked in the ball to keep him from getting it.

Beginner

I classified this as a beginner static because she is focused on keeping her centre of gravity over her base of support and she has all of her body working together in order to stay upright. Because she is a beginner, is needs to keep focused and keep as many points of her body as she can on the floor. By using her head and arms she is creating a triangle is is much more stable as we could see from coparing the stability of a tripod to a bipod.

Intermediate

Even though she is using the wall as a balancing aid, I classified this as intermediate statics because this would be difficult for someone who may not do this all the time. She is in an upside-down position and only has two points on the floor. She is remaining concentrated and she is keeping her core tight to help with balance and control of her body.

Advanced

This girl is exhibiting an advanced static by performing a one-handed hand stand. In order to keep her balance with only one point on the ground, she is need to keep her centre of gravity over that one point or distribute her weight around it it. In this case, she is keeping her centre of gravity over the one point which is her arm. In order todoso she is tightning all of her her major muscle groups (especially her core). She is keeping balanced by concentration and keeping her eyes focused on one point at the ground in order to avoid distraction. She is also refraining from movement to avoid losing her balance.

Accompanying

Beginner

This beginner accompanyment of a soccer ball exhibits control, balance and the use of peripheral vision. Even though her centre of gravity is not directly over top of her base of support, she is still maintaining balance as she changes direction with the ball. She shows a good understanding of how hard to hit the ball in order to dribble properly without losing control. By not looking directly at the ball, nor constantly looking at in her intended direction, she is making use of her peripherals in order to be aware of her surroundings and keeping on track

Evading

Intermediate

with where she is wanting to go.

Landings

Even though this picture does not diplay much more than the beginner photo, it can still be seen as intermediate accompanyment. He is maintaining control as he moves down the court. His balance seems to be steady, and he his protecting the object that he is moving with. By putting up his other arm, he is ready to block the reach of any possible incoming players who may be attempting to steal the ball. When not checking to see if he is still on the path to his target, his eyes should be periodically looking towards the ball in order to manipulate it how he wants.

Beginner

This is beginner evading. She is maintaining balance in her upper body, keep visual contact with the object at hand and she is coordinating and distributing her body weight. She is keeping her centre of gravity inside her base of support though it is her foot that is leading the movements, not her core. The very slight tilt of her upper body is also aiding in her balance. While stepping forward with one foot, the other is bearing the weight of the body on its own, in order to stay balanced, she needs to tilt slightly back on that foot.

By landing with his knees and waist bent, he is maximizing his stability. His centre of gravity is low and located in the center of his base of support. His feet are about shoulder width apart and he is using his arms to keep his balance.

Advanced

Intermediate

I showed this as advanced accompanyment because she is exibiting stability while in motion, she has her eyes on the ball and she is responding to her surroundings. In the game of field hockey, there are several different types of dribbles, they are all effective, but for certain moments in a game. Some are used to keep the ball from other players, others are used when passing and coming up for a shot and certain are good for evading. The player in white is changing her direction and side her stick is on in order to

maximize the effectiveness of her evasions.
